Week to End Poverty (October 12-19, 2008)

October 17 is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Around the world, people will affirm their commitment to ending poverty. The Week to End Poverty is October 12-19, 2008. KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives prepared a resource for congregations wishing to mark this week.

Congregations can:

  • Pray
  • Mark October 17 in worship
  • Learn about poverty in you community. Find opportunities to follow the biblical mandate to “love your neighbour as yourself” (Matt. 22:39). Write to your provincial government. If it has not already done so, ask for a multi-faceted plan to reduce poverty, including measurable targets and timelines.
  • Meet with your elected official at the provincial level.
