In 1997 the Church Doctrine Committee of the Presbyterian Church in Canada began a dialogue with Presbyterians in this country on the subject of faith and economics by means of a discussion paper entitled “The Christian Gospel and the Market Economy”. The present status of the study document, “The Christian Gospel and the Market Economy” is that it is sent down for study and comment by the General Assembly of 1997. The Committee received many helpful responses from Presbyterians across Canada that enabled the Committee to improve the original discussion document. The responses also led the Committee to decide that a study guide would be helpful tool in ongoing discussions about faith, economics and the biblical witness to economics among Presbyterians and others in Canada. The attached document is designed to be used by bible study groups in the church to explore further the relationship of our faith the market economy that we operate in. The General Assembly Committee on Church Doctrine hopes that groups throughout the church would find these bible studies helpful as they continue to study the meaning of our Christian discipleship in the contemporary world.
