The Presbyterian Church in Canada’s Experience Mission program has been designed to help congregations and individuals accompany Presbyterian mission partners in Canada and overseas through short-term mission experiences. As you share in the mission of the church you will serve others, enhance your personal growth, learn skills and grow in your faith.

Provide Ecumenical Accompaniment in the Palestinian Territories

Presbyterian World Service and Development and International Ministries are seeking persons willing to take part in the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI).

The EAPPI mission is to accompany Palestinians and Israelis in their non-violent actions and concerted advocacy efforts to end the occupation. Participants of EAPPI monitor and report violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, offer protection through non-violent presence, engage in public policy advocacy and stand in solidarity with the churches and all those struggling against the occupation.

EAPPI accompaniers should be:

  • 25 years of age or older
  • Knowledgeable of and/or interested in the Middle East region and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict
  • Committed to continue advocacy work upon return to home country including participation in public speaking

Teach English in China

The Amity Summer English Programme (SEP) offers oral English training for Chinese Middle School teachers from small cities and rural areas. This program gives volunteers an opportunity both to teach and to learn in a 4-week intensive English program in a variety of locations in China. Mission in Malawi

Dates: April 19 – May 6, 2012

Come, share in the mission and ministry work being done in partnership with the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian through Presbyterians Sharing and PWS&D. On this mission trip you will have the opportunity to:

  • learn about life in Malawi and how faith weaves its way through everyday living
  • experience worship in the local language and customs
  • assist with programs for children and youth and see firsthand the difference that community development programs are making in the lives of people
  • assist with programs for children and youth and see firsthand the difference that community development programs are making in the lives of people
  • share in the day-to-day life of a Malawian family through a home stay
  • explore community health, food security, and HIV & AIDS programs that are changing people’s lives

Middle East: A Moment of Truth

Dates: October 22 – November 1, 2012
Deadline: June 1, 2012
Cost: $3400

The KAIROS Palestine document “A Moment of Truth: A word of faith, hope and love from the heart of Palestinian suffering,” was commended to Canadian Presbyterian congregations, presbyteries and committees for study and discussion. This tour will help you discover the plight of Palestinian Christians and learn about issues in Israel and Palestine. You will:

  • Meet and worship with local Palestinian Christians
  • Travel to Hebron, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Haifa, Jerusalem and other historic cities
  • Visit Biblical sites in Jericho, the River Jordan, the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, The Mount of Beatitudes and Tiberius
  • Meet with leaders from different faith communities inspired to build peace
  • Learn about peace building initiatives being undertaken by partners of The Presbyterian Church in Canada

Israel/ Palestine: Sabeel Young Adult Conference

Dates: July 2-16, 2012
Deadline: March 30, 2012

Ages: 18 – 35

Inspired by Christ’s teachings this conference offers you an opportunity to learn about and be engaged in building peace in the Middle East. At this ten day youth conference you will:

  • Travel to Israel and Palestine, joining youth from around the world to learn and worship together
  • Meet leaders from different faiths inspired to build peace
  • Travel to historic, biblical, and significant sites such as the garden of Gethsemane, the United Nations Office, the Old City in Hebron, Bethlehem, and many more.

This is an intensive conference examining complex issues in the Middle East. All perspective candidates will be interviewed. Young adults with strong leadership skills and experience in mission and/or social justice issues are encouraged to apply.

The Mission Track at CY 2012 offers you a chance to learn about more about mission at our national youth conference, held every 3 years. Take part in a hands-on-mission experience, learn how the Presbyterian Church in Canada does mission, and become a part of a small community united in serving and living out Christ’s call of discipleship. This is an excellent experience for youth who think they would like to start mission work in their own communities or become more involved in mission in the future.

International Aids Confernence: Turning the Tide, Washington, DC

Dates: July 19-28, 2012

Come and join the Canadian youth delegation which will attend the first International Aids Conference to be held in the United States since 1990. Participants will gather with around 20,000 people from over 200 countries in Washington, DC for this conference. You will:

  • Take part in an Inter-faith Pre-conference on “Taking action for health, dignity, and justice.” Learn more how faith communities are addressing HIV and AIDS.
  • Take part in the International AIDS Youth Programme and hear the world’s most distinguished HIV scientists, policy specialists and community leaders discuss how to fight HIV.

CANCOM: Young Adults in Mission Workcamp 2012 - Trindad and Tobago

Dates: July 27- August 13, 2012
Deadline: February 1st, 2012
Cost: $300
Ages: 18 – 30

Young Adults in Mission (YAM) is an inter-cultural, inter-racial group of young adults learning partnership in mission together. At the workcamp they blend academic thinking with manual work, focusing on God’s presence in their lives.

The Presbyterian Church in Canada’s partner CANCOM hosts a YAM Workcamp every 3 years. Participants must submit a YIM application and a CANCOM application to Matt Foxall by no later than February 1st, 2012 to be considered for this trip. Participants are expected to raise $300 to help offset the cost of the trip while the remaining cost is covered through a partnership with the PCC and CANCOM.

Canadian Food Grains Bank Youth Food Study Tour - Nicaragua

Dates: May 1-15, 2012
Deadline: February 15th, 2012
Cost: $3000
Ages: 18 – 25

This tour will focus on learning through workshops, intercultural dialogue and project visits. The group will begin the tour in the capital city of Managua. Here we will learn about the history and current context of Nicaragua, explore local markets and learn more about life in Nicaragua from local young people.

After the orientation in Managua we will travel to the north of the country near the city of Ocotal where we will visit local agricultural groups that are working to create change in their communities.

A home stay visit, during which participants will spend up to three nights in the home of a family in a local community, promises to be a highlight. We will also take some time to see some of the sights of the country and buy some local handcrafts. Much time will also be spent reflection and prayer.

As a participant you will:

  • Learn more about important issues affecting our world
  • Develop skills in analysis and critical thinking
  • Learn about international development
  • Meet Nicaraguans who are contributing to their communities
  • Learn what you can do to contribute to a world without hunger
  • Make new friends & partners in ending hunger from across Canada and internationally
  • Gain insight into intercultural communication

WCC Stewards Programme - Crete, Greece

Dates: August 23- September 7, 2012
Deadline: March 1st, 2012
Cost: $500
Ages: 18 – 30

The Central Committee of the World Council of Churches meets every 18 months to monitor and set directions to the Council's work. The meeting brings together about 150 church representatives, advisers and observers from WCC member churches and associated organizations worldwide. Twenty-five stewards will help to make this event happen.

Before the meetings, stewards learn about the key issues of the ecumenical movement worldwide. During the meetings the stewards are put to work helping facilitate logistics in worship, the conference room, documentation, press office, sound, and other administrative and support tasks. Afterwards the stewards design ecumenical projects which they will implement when they return home.

Being a steward is hard work, but it is also a unique ecumenical experience bringing together young people from different churches, countries and cultures.
Participants must submit a YIM application and a WCC application to the contact below by no later than March 1st, 2012 to be considered for this trip.

Prince Rupert is a logging and fishing community in northern British Columbia. First Presbyterian Church’s ministry includes and after school children’s program and a food program for those in need.
