We regret to announce the passing of the Rev. Dr. Tom Gemmell, retired Presbyterian minister on the the appendix to the roll of the Presbytery of Ottawa, Sunday May 13, 2012. The funeral was held Monday, May 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox Church, Ottawa. See Tom's death notice on the PCC site here; read Tom's obituary from the Ottawa Citizen here; also on Tubman Funeral Homes' site here (including color picture); read the memorial minute to be sent to the 138th General Assembly here.
On Monday April 2, 2012 the Rev. Stephen Kendall, Principal Clerk of General Assembly, on behalf of the Committee to Advise the Moderator, announced that the name of The Rev. Dr. John Vissers, Principal of Presbyterian College, Montreal will be placed as the sole nominee to be Moderator of the 138th General Assembly this June in Oshawa, Ontario. Dr. Vissers was also recently named as the new Director of Academic Programs and Professor of Historical Theology at Knox College, Toronto, effective January 1, 2013 - see that announcement here,
At its March 20 meeting the presbytery sustained a call to Teresa Charlton, minister at St. Andrew's Richmond for the last 5 years, from Knox Church, Vernon BC, in the Presbytery of Kamloops. Teresa will move in July; her final Sunday will likely be in late June; Kelly Graham was named interim moderator; he will "preach the pulput vacant" July 15, 2012. We'll miss you, Teresa!
At the same meeting Capt. David A. Stewart was welcomed to the presbytery. David is a Canadian Forces Chaplain seconded to the Recruitment Section of the Chaplain General's office. Welcome, David!
The Rev. Dr. Malcolm Caldwell passed away in Ottawa March 1, 2012. The funeral took place Monday March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's church, Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa.
