Every 15 seconds, someone in the world dies of AIDS-related illnesses, most often from a lack of medicine. On December 1st, World AIDS Day, people from around the world come together to bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic. We’ve come a long way since the first World AIDS Day was held 20 years ago, but there is still much more to be done. Can you imagine a world without AIDS? Presbyterians in Canada can.

Overview
There are 33 million people living around the world with HIV and AIDS. Of these, 95 per cent are in the developing world. The crisis continues to grow, exacerbating existing emergencies, reversing development gains, and creating new crises on a global scale.
Can you imagine a world without AIDS? Presbyterian churches in Canada can. Hearing the call of church partners in Africa, Asia and Central America for help to cope with the global scourge of the HIV and AIDS pandemic, and responding to God's call, The 130th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada launched a special appeal to tackle the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
The appeal, led by Presbyterian World Service & Development, has raised over $1.4 million as of 30 September, 2007. This amount is over and above regular contributions to PWS&D and Presbyterians Sharing... - and supports global partners in their fight against HIV and AIDS. The work still continues.
Responding to the words of Christ: "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly," (John 10:10) the appeal seeks to bear witness to this life-giving proclamation of hope in the face of raw human reality.
