PWS&D Expands Flood Response in Pakistan

In response to the massive flooding in Pakistan, PWS&D is expanding its reach to those most affected by making a contribution to an appeal issued by the ACT Alliance. As reports from our partners come in, the extent of the disaster is far beyond what was originally thought.

According to the UN, an estimated 14 million people have been affected by the floods, which is more people than the Tsunami, the Kashmir earthquake and the Haiti earthquake combined.

Expanding the Response

The ACT Alliance, with support from PWS&D, is seeking to provide over 130,000 people with basic essential items such as food packages, shelter materials and household items. Food packages provide the basics for a family for two months, consisting of rice, wheat flour, beans, sugar, cooking oil, tea and salt. Shelter kits include a winterized tent and plastic sheeting. Medical teams and mobile health facilities are being dispatched to areas hardest hit.

To date, the ACT Alliance has received pledges toward this $4 million project, and is seeking a balance of over $2.6 million in order to reach all the intended recipients.
