Edmonton Urban Native Ministries (EUNM)
In 2004, the Presbyteries of Edmonton-Lakeland and Western Han Ca established Edmonton Urban Native Ministries (EUNM) with support from Canada Ministries and local congregations. There are 43,000 native residents in Edmonton which is the second largest native population in Canada. Many are on Social Services or are low income families. Many have limited knowledge or have experienced Christ’s love and the Christian faith. The Ministry operates out of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Hoo Sik Kim was the minister for this ministry from February 2004 until January 2009.
The Ministry offers hope and encouragement to patrons and provides support to those on recovery and spiritual journeys. One form of support is through the morning devotion which is a special time for patrons and workers to share in a time of worship and prayer.
EUNM operates a drop-in centre where various programs are offered: food programs, a limited food bank, clothing bank, computers, phone service, and administrative assistance. The mission also provides Vacation Bible School, soccer camp, and Tae Kwon Do lessons. Bus tickets are provided to individuals who require support to attend medical appointments and court appearances as transportation is a huge barrier.
EUNM plans to run a Bible study, children’s choir, and healing initiatives for people of all age groups. EUNM would also like to implement a Music program, and are seeking donations of various musical instruments.
