The 11 million refugees living in refugee camps or city slums are some of the worlds most vulnerable people. Forced to leave their homes in search of refuge, they are fleeing violence, conflict and poverty. Action Réfugiés Montréal (ARM) in downtown Montreal works in solidarity with refugees and refugee claimants by matching vulnerable refugee women with volunteers, facilitating the private sponsorship of refugees to Canada, and visiting people held in an immigration detention centre near Montreal.
