Education and Small Business Development (PWESB01)
Many children in developing nations never have a chance to go to school. They are overwhelmed by crowded classrooms and a lack of school supplies, or must work long hours to support their families. PWS&D works with partners to provide education to children in urban slums and skills training to rural youth who would otherwise leave their families for expensive courses in urban areas.
PWS&D partners empower women and men to combat poverty through literacy, education and income generation programs. Money management training helps women increase their income and their confidence. Savings and loans groups enable women to start small businesses that supplement their families’ incomes and enhance their feelings of self-worth.
- $80 provides a group of women with literacy and vocational training for one month
- $120 sends a vulnerable child to school for one year
- $215 enables 40 women to participate in a business training program
- $350 provides one sewing machine to someone living with a disability
- $500 helps a women's group start a small business fund
