100 youth attend Synergy PYPS event
From February 13-15, more than 100 young people converged on Crieff Hills Retreat Centre in Puslinch, Ont. for a weekend of worship, friendship and fun.
Known as Synergy, the event was planned and run by the Presbyterian Young People’s Societies from the synods of Central, Northeastern Ontario and Bermuda and Southwestern Ontario. It was the first time the PYPS groups have worked together to shape a joint event.
In preparation for Canada Youth 2009, a national youth conference this July, keynote speaker Rev, Sarah Travis spoke about planting seeds and bearing fruit as Christians—a theme which compliments CY’s theme, “Rooted.”
Activities throughout the weekend included sleigh rides, games, square dancing, energetic worship and a spirituality centre.
PYPS is a peer ministry; its events are planned by youth for youth, with guidance from adult youth consultants and advisors. Each PYPS group runs three events yearly, and strives to encourage communication and coordination among young people and youth leaders in its synod.
