I thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from reading The Heart of Conflict by Dr. Elinor D.U. Powell. I have always been told that I am more spiritual than religious and could not truly understand the difference until I read her book.
Throughout my life I have struggled with people, wanting to make them happy, needing them to like me and always seeming to fall short of succeeding in my relationships. I felt that The Heart of Conflict helped me to better understand why we are here and why we must continue to struggle with conflict so that we can make this world a place of tranquility and harmony. I was truly inspired and feel strongly that everyone will take some small part with them and leave with an understanding as to why they too need conflict to survive.
I wish to express what I learned categorically and at no time will admit to even scratching the surface of this very philosophical and spiritual book.
HOPE: Everything happens for a reasonfacing our fears and preparing ourselves gives us hope. We all need this to survive and from this none of us is immune. Some of us face it all at one time, some sporadically throughout our journey, but either way we all have our time for turmoil and conflict. Although conflict is most frustrating, our life challenges will help us to recognize our strengths and weaknesses.
TRUST: Sometimes what seems a betrayal is someone’s love for usnot to hurt us. We must look at the whole picture as to why people are not truthful to us. Could it be perhaps that our past reactions have forced them to do so? Removing layers as to why people influence us and realizing all that we question has a ripple effect, helps us to understand that our actions affect someone down the line. If we believe otherwise we have not truly grasped what life is all about.
I learned that spirituality and being analytical go hand in hand...I have analyzed situations forever and by reading Conflict realized that I need not fear my spiritual feelings. They, in fact, make me stronger with every situation and through my faith I am able to handle much more than I ever thought possible.
When we come to the realization that we cannot learn everything we become a person who contributes to the whole and not just to our own small circle of life. Group co-operation is essential for growth and although we sometimes balk at others and their ideas we would do ourselves so much justice by allowing participation from all.
Positive people give you the strength, but avoidance and perceptions of us through others can make us feel unfulfilled. We must face all people to make our lives whole. Although negativity can draw us into the vortex of disillusionment we need to research both sides of the coin to succeed.
I trust that by reading this book you will find a new self, a new beginning and the hope that we all need as the human race to survive. Throughout my reading I was drawn into the ebb and flow of our existence. Our religion, our culture, our belief, our hope is what sustains us all through these ever changing times. I feel that as humans we are at a crossroad and now is the time to transform our spirituality into goodness and hope.
